I Walk the Rhythm of Stories

As I walk through the Siskiyou Mountains, I tell stories from the landscape: of trees and rocks, crows and coyotes, stories of the ancient people who once lived here and of those who live here now.

W.B. Yeats and his buddy John Synge chanted their poems as they walked the Irish countryside, and the poet Santoka, who wandered more than 28,000 miles across Japan, had a system of "walking Zen." He wrote:

"Days I don't enjoy:
Any day I don't walk.
Any day I don't drink sake.
Any day I don't write haiku."

I walk the rhythm of stories ... stories alive with characters drawn from the landscape around me.
