My Drawings

My drawings are accompaniments to my stories. Rather than illustrating scenes in a realistic manner, I have presented Old Time symbols that explore the depths of native culture as they are dramatized in each story. Most of the symbols are based on images at rock writing sites I have visited over the years.

My desire has been to create a visual approach in tune with the spirit of Mythtime as well as traditional native world view. The drawings present a representation of what a storyteller might be doing in performance with gestures, movements, facial expressions as well as verbally-suggested images, and the depths of silence between the words.... They also speak to the strong sense of place found in native narratives. In essence, the landscape has a language.
