In a village along the river, near the ocean, there is a boy who is always hungry. His parents feed him little and what he does get is the meager leavings of everyone else's meals. His mother gives him what is left of his father's catch after others have eaten their fill: the head of Dog Salmon, the tail of Water Snake, the guts of Seal. It is never enough. |
