Thomas Doty is nationally known as a native storyteller. He is the author of a series of Doty and Coyote books, and many of his stories have been broadcast on Public Radio. He has received several awards, including a Distinguished Lifetime Achievement Award from the national American Indian Program.

Doty has been called "One of the best of Oregon's storytellers" and "a master of his art." He writes: "Stories touch us deeply, on many levels of truth. They entertain, they teach, they heal. I keep the old time stories alive as well as create new ones to keep my art vibrant and healthy."
