A Center for the Study of Storytelling, Literature & Performance
Dragonfly Place is located in the Siskiyou Mountains near Ashland, Oregon. Thomas Doty is Storyteller and Author in Residence.
In the local Takelma mythology, the Daldal brothers were dragonflies, and traveled up the Rogue River from the coast making the world ready for the arrival of human beings. When they were done with their journey -- after a number of adventures along the way -- they became the two Table Rocks along the Rogue River, the heart of the Takelma universe. In many mythologies, dragonflies share symbolisms with their butterfly cousins and often represent immortality and regeneration. Dragonfly Place is home to many dragonflies and butterflies. They remind us of the immortal and regenerative qualities of stories.
Dragonfly Place houses an extensive library and archives of books, manuscripts, field notes, photos and recordings.
